We'll trade you Miller and a 3rd rounder for Moulson and Nino.

nope. I like Miller but a goalie with one year left on his deal that's making a fair bit of coin isn't worth giving up our best wing prospect and a 3 time 30 goal scorer. Granted, Moulson wouldn't likely be a 30 goal scorer without JT but still too much, we're already short one top line winger.

How about Dehaan and next year's 2nd for Miller?

Wonder which way does Snow go now? Stay with Nabby? I have to think he was in on Bernier if Staple was tweeting it? I'm guessing there is a big trade for Luongo coming up?

We'll politely hang up the phone. Miller is 33 and has only 1 year left on his deal; Moulson is a perennial 30-goal scorer, and Niño is a top prospect.

Smart move. It's a buyer's market; no need to overpay for a goalie, especially a goalie who hasn't proven much, only playing 62 games over the last 5 years.

What if Miller was signed to an extension before the trade?

It is very well known that most goalies don't enter their "primes" until they are at least 30. And we all know what Miller looked like as a goalie during an Olympic year last time.....

Miller with extension, 2nd rounder, and Flynn for Moulson and Nino.

Nino isn't gonna stay with NYI.. he wants off.. you guys have no leverage with him when his RFA rights come up.. you have to deal him.

Well, if he thinks Strait is a top pair dman, then he must think Ricky is a top 5 goalie in the league. I said it last week...they're keeping RDP around for a reason and it isn't for a mega-contract-swap/trade for Luongo.

Maybe? The Isles say this isn't the case, Nino stated he wanted to remain an islander. Supposedly the whole "wanting out" thing was a blunder by his agent which his agent apologized for. We'll see? Usually where theres smoke there is fire but I don't think he'll be traded for nothing. Not that Miller is nothing but he still has a lot of value even if he is on the move.

That Strait comment was frightening. If RDP is inserted back into the line up I'll shat myself. Hopefully he's looking into another option in goal not named RDP or Luongo.

If the flyers get Bernier then NYI can just sign a newly UFA Bryz, or trade for miller, or wait to sign Lou as an FA, or Backstrom if he is traded to MN. Who knows, however plenty of options at this point, overpaying for an unproven goalie shouldnt be too big of a deal.

Although I was OK with the idea of getting him I wouldn't want to give up what i'm sure LA wanted. If Snow decides to improve in net you are right there are other options that will cost us nothing in terms of prospects/picks. Should be an interesting next couple weeks.

I agree. Smart not to give up a ton for Bernier. Poulin or Nilsson could be the answer. It's hard to write them off yet. I would love to see Smith and Poulin be the goalies this year.

“Overall I’m definitely a better player now than I was a year ago. I played a lot of minutes in Bridgeport this year and had the chance to gain a lot of confidence. And I gained even more at the World Championships.

“I will do everything I can over the summer to be in the best shape and the best player I can be in Islanders Training Camp.”

--Nino Niederreiter, May 20

I'm sure there are hard feelings all around, and the Isles may well deal him, but he's not refusing to report and the Isles have the leverage.

My gut tells me they may be looking at the goalie situation something like this: RDP is $4.5M/yr...We're gonna set a goalie budget at $6.5-$7.0M per year for a starter and a backup. Rick will be the most expensive backup(after Luongo) in the league. If he is invited to camp, I think this could be the reality of what they do with Rick, of course contingent on his health, while lighting a candle each day and praying that he gets frustrated and retires.

Poulin did okay in the playoffs when he had to come in. I don't think he isn't the answer, but I think he needs another season of 30/70. We don't need to rush, but we need Nabby to sign for another year.

Outside of that, I do think Snow will have a bigger purse than he had previous seasons. He will be able to offer more and with despite what we think other teams see of us, we have an impressive stable. We can trade assets we thought unavailable a season or two ago and still be in good shape. A team that has blown for as many years as we have has a load of picks other teams may want. While we may not want to lose the Bailey's, KO's, Nino's, etc, we can afford them if it brings in quality.

I see a better Isles team next season and I don't think that this year will have been a fluke.

Good.. I'm glad we aren't going in on Bernier.. honestly would rather get Lu from Vancouver for Howden, Clem, and a 2nd or something. Luongo and Markstrom as a goaltending tandem... I dig it.

you're incorrect here. He's going to get his shot in camp and after he becomes an RFA the Isles hold all the leverage. He'll resign or he'll hold out and play nowhere. If someone signs him to an offer sheet we can match. He's got nothing.

Nabby and Visnovsky both didn't want to come to the Isles. Both ended up coming and signing extensions. Snow knows how to hold onto an asset and how to keep them here. Nino isn't going anywhere.

Miller signed to a reasonable extension might be interesting, we have no need for the 2nd round pick or Flynn. We have prospects galore and just need solid NHL players.

Miller and Vanek? Maybe now we look at dealing Nino in a package with Dehaan and a pick, but not moving Moulson. We need to add a goaltender and a top line winger, not subtract one.

he'll either be bought out or used to reach the floor.
